Sculpture and More > Talismen (13)

These carvings were completed between 1999 and 2001. They are made of deadfall from English Sycamore trees that grow all over Brooklyn, New York. Sycamore trees are an ancient species and have often inspired people. They are extremely hearty trees, well suited to urban environments and have a distinctive bark that is multicolored and sheds from the tree regularly. The wood is hard and close grained and has a refined and delicate lace like quality to it.
